The first step is to avoid unnecessary antibiotics. I'd consider chemical preservatives in food similarly as they are also designed to kill microorganisms. If you do take an antibiotic, I suggest taking a probiotic as well to begin replenishing the beneficial bacteria. There are several different types seen on ingredient lists that might help: |
• | Lactobacillus | | • | Saccharomyces boulardii
2. After or during travel adventures
Travel is a common time for gut bacteria disruption. This might happen from germs on planes, jet lag and adventures with new people, new food culture, and new cuisine. |
Aim for clean hands, make restoring good sleep a priority, and choose clean food and drinks. |
• | Food should be thoroughly cooked and served hot, and choose fruits that you can peel yourself. | | • | Drinks should be bottled, canned or disinfected. It's better to drink from a bottle or can than a glass.
3. After or during diarrhea
Diarrhea can be a huge disruptor, much of the good bacteria end up going into the toilet. To help restore the good bacteria after a bout of diarrhea: |
• | Hydration is key. For severe diarrhea, a rehydration solution is typically best. | | • | Consider starting DiaResQ, up to 3 packets a day as diarrhea persists. This is a new approach to diarrhea. It effectively reaches the intestinal tract, providing beneficial nutrients for relief from diarrhea to help restore normal function quickly -- in most cases after one day of use. DiaResQ is not a drug or antibiotic. It's made from colostrum and egg yolk | | • | The probiotics listed above may all be helpful in diarrhea.
Take care of the marvelous bacteria in the gut - especially when there is a disruption - so they can keep taking care of you. |
